Robert Hinkle, formerly of Perth, NY, and most recently residing in Conway, SC, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Conway Medical Center. Born on August 7, 1949, in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Raymond R. Hinkle and Mayme Kosiba Hinkle.
Robert was a 1967 graduate of the former Perth Central School. He proudly served his country as a Navy Veteran from 1968 to 1972, during which he served in Vietnam and was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal with one star, the National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
His career with the US Postal Service began in 1973 in Amsterdam, NY. He later transferred to the Karner Road post office in Albany in 1979. In 1981, he became the Postmaster of Ft. Johnson, NY, and held various positions including Officers-In-Charge of the Pattersonville and Richmondville post offices, and superintendent of Postal Operations of the Watervliet Post Office. He was also a Systems Compliance Auditor for the USPS in Albany. In 1988, he was appointed Postmaster of Broadalbin, NY, a position he held until his retirement in 2001. After retiring, Robert worked for Amsterdam Chrysler and Conway Chrysler.
Robert was actively involved in his community as a former member of the Perth Volunteer Fire Department, NAPUS (National Association of Postmasters of the United States), and the Broadalbin Rotary Club. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 178 and the VFW Post 10420, both located in Murrells Inlet, SC.
Watson Funeral Services and Crematory, located at 2300 Hwy 378, Conway, SC, is serving the family during this time.
