Robert (Bob)
Alan Parsons
Aug 24, 1948 — Apr 16, 2026
Robert (Bob) Alan Parsons, 77, passed away on April 16, 2026, at Grand Strand Memorial Hospital in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Born in Weehawken, New Jersey, Bob lived a life defined by his love of the outdoors and his unwavering dedication to seeing his children succeed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Afferica and Frederick Parsons, and his brother, John Parsons.
He is survived by his brother, Frederick "Rick" Parsons; his daughters, Mekea Johnson (Daniel), Ashley Cowen (Chris), and Amanda Parsons; and his grandchildren, Kyra, Orin, Audrey, Carter, and Cooper, who brought him immense pride and joy.
A veteran of the United States Army, Bob held a Master's degree and dedicated his professional life to education. He served as a tenured professor at Virginia Tech and also taught at Radford University and the University of Oklahoma, leaving a lasting impact on his students. His love of learning extended beyond the classroom, as he instilled those same values in his daughters.
Bob enjoyed traveling, especially cruises to Alaska, visiting beaches across the southern United States, and backpacking in Montana in his younger years. He was a romantic at heart and found great happiness with Ms. Wanda Carr, with whom he shared many meaningful years.
He also found joy in life's simple moments—especially gathering around a good meal with family, something he always valued and looked forward to.
Bob will be remembered for his intelligence, his love of learning, and his devotion to his family.
