Obituary

Leila McDaniel Altman Dillard, wife of George Dillard, died Sunday, February 25, 2024, after a long battle with breast cancer.

Leila was born July 26, 1948, in the rural area of Hemingway, SC, daughter of the late Beauford McDaniel and the late Frances Douglas McDaniel Sawyer.

Her public jobs were mostly clerical/accounting over the years, but her favorite job was the purchasing agent for Wellman, Inc., in Marion, SC.

She was an avid seamstress. She enjoyed making things for her home, her family and her friends. She even started a clothing alterations business after leaving the public work force.

Leila enjoyed crossword puzzles, craft projects, gardening, making jam and preserving fruits and vegetables for the winter, family history, collecting recipes and reading.

Leila loved the Lord and accepted him as her Savior at an early age. Over the years she served as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher and Children's Church Director at various churches she attended over the years.

Surviving are husband; children, Richard (Crystal) Altman, Jr. of Britton's Neck, SC, April (Todd) Duvall of Monroe, NC, Bruce (Laura) Altman of Aynor, SC and Lee (Debbie) Altman of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Caleb Altman, Summer Love, Samantha Love, Colby Duvall, Jameson Duvall, Lilly (Hunter) Harrelson, Maggie Altman, Janae Altman, James (Cemantha) Brown and Mason (Anna) Altman; great-grandchildren, Addie and Mia Brown, and Margo Altman; siblings, Frances Cox of Florence, SC, Essie Morgan of Corning, AR, Sam McDaniel of Mason, WI and Kathy McDaniel of Colerain, NC; sister-in-law, Eileen Huggins of Hemingway, SC, and a host of extended family and friends.

Leila was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and father of her children, Richard Altman, Sr.; grandson, Justin Altman; brother, J. B. McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Bert Altman and Kalissa Altman and brother-in-law, Larry Cox.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 2940 Minnick Road, Aynor, SC 29511.

The family will receive friends after the Memorial Service, at the church.
