Obituary

Larry Joseph Dietrich of Conway, South Carolina passed from this life on February 3, 2025 at 12:27 pm at the age of 81.  He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Senter) for 27 years and loving father to Tiffany Johnson (Pat) and Elizabeth Barrow (Patrick), cherished grandfather to Jacob, Julia and Justin.  He was the loving brother of Violet Seizinger (Roy) and the late Ralph (Dorothy) and Ronald (Olga).  Also an Uncle to Valerie Dwyer (Michael), Sarah D'Hondt (Scott), Mark and Carol.  Stepfather to Steve, Timothy, Bruce (Lisa) and John (Angela) Senter.

Larry was born on August 2, 1943 at Dorothy Rogers Hospital in Detroit, MI to Elsie Elizabeth (Schmalenberg) and Lawrence Joseph Bonali.  Upon the tragic death of Elsie in 1952, Larry was adopted by Ambrose and Lena (Hack Schmalenberg) Dietrich.  Lena was his maternal grandmother.

Larry attended Cass Tech and then graduated from SouthEastern High School in 1961.  He was a chauffeur until his employment at General Motors in the Cadillac Motor Car Division. Larry started first as a union assembly worker at the Clark Street plant in Detroit, then was promoted to a supervisor in 1972.  He ended his career working as a manager at the Powertrain Engine Plant in Livonia.

In 1968, Larry and Faith were married and later had 2 daughters, Tiffany and Elizabeth.  He had to sell his beloved 1958 green Corvette to fit his growing family and always reminded us throughout the years.  Cadillacs became his new passion and we had various models and colors.  We enjoyed summers at our cottage in Port Austin, Sunday drives to Belle Isle and sometimes the Coney Island.

He married Dorothy in 1997 and they moved to Conway, South Carolina in 2008.  They enjoyed their local Rec Center, church and met many caring friends.  We are grateful for all of the help from his friends including Robert Anderson, Jason Jordan and Paul Bochnewich.  We would always hear about the yummy food Paul would make for them every week.

In his last months, he was surrounded by wonderful caregivers, Joann and Angela. We are very thankful for their extensive care.

Larry enjoyed reading, crime shows, listening to Alan Almond's Pillow Talk on WNIC, eating cheese enchiladas from "Mexican Village" and going out for ice cream. He will humorously be remembered for wearing his elevator boots, Elvis toupee and making his grandkids laugh! He was a life-long lottery player and would want us to add the date of his passing to the rotation of memorable numbers played.
