AFTER THE SERVICE
Juanita Cooper Hughes, age 96, walked into the loving arms of Jesus on August 21, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. After a lifetime of faithfully serving her Savior, she was welcomed into His presence and reunited with her beloved husband, Julian Odell Hughes. Together, they shared 76 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in February 2026. Mrs. Hughes was born on May 7, 1930, to William Furman and Maybelle Singleton Cooper.
Juanita was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother who dedicated her life to her family.
She is survived by her children, Julian O. Hughes, Jr. (Elaine), Glenn W. Hughes (Wanda), Julia H. Clardy (Wayne), Linda H. Tanner (Ray, deceased), and the late Robert M. “Bobby” Hughes (Vicki). She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Lora Renedo, Tara DuPree, Michelle Anderson, Julianne Cooke, Shayera Clardy-Hawn, Jason Clardy, Jared Clardy, Korenne Blackmon, Erica Tanner, Robert M. Hughes, Jr., and Jay Hughes; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Patricia Capps and Joanne Williams, and her brother, William “Bill” Cooper.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her son, Robert M. “Bobby” Hughes; her grandson, Julian D. Tanner; and her great-granddaughter, Ellie W. Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Mayfield Cooper; and her sisters, Elena Luke, Wilma Fitch, Erva Lee Roberts, Mary Grace Richardson, Emilyn Hackworth, and her twin sister, Levita Mishoe.
Mrs. Hughes loved her family dearly and found great joy in caring for those around her. She loved her pets, cooking, exercising, and keeping a beautiful and welcoming home. She was a faithful member of First United Pentecostal Church, where she worshipped and served the Lord throughout her life. Her unwavering faith, loving spirit, and devotion to her family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at Antioch Community Church, with visitation following the service. Rev. Ben Cooke will be officiating.

A very special thank-you is extended to Nancy Kohanyi, whose compassionate care and devotion to Juanita brought comfort and peace to her and her family.
