Obituary

Join us as we remember Joan S. Wilkes, aged 78, whose spirit departed us on January 7th, 2025. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born January 3rd, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Joseph King Hucks and Geneva Capps Hucks of Aynor South Carolina.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Arland C. Skipper, her second husband, Donald Whitaker; siblings, Richard Hucks, and Dolphus Hucks. A loving mother, Joan's devotion to God, family, and friends, superseded any of her many accomplishments throughout her life. She worked in the computer component industry for over 30 years and she could be found filling in at the local bakery from time to time. She loved gardening, painting ceramics, and playing softball. Her love for all things Christmas was evident throughout the year. She took on her most important work later in life... SPOILING her granddaughter! She quickly became a photographer, chauffeur, event coordinator, talent agent, kiddie chef, and her granddaughter's biggest fan. She was a faithful member of Free Worship Church in the Juniper Bay area, where she loved serving the Lord. She also volunteered throughout the community helping to feed the needy.

Mrs. Wilkes is survived by her husband of fourteen years, Carol William Wilkes; her son, Arland Jeffrey Skipper and his wife, Rebecca; daughter, Kimberly Skipper; stepdaughter, Rena Wilkes Edmondson and her husband Bill; brothers, Terry Hucks (Vicky), Paul Hucks (Debbie), Joseph Hucks Jr. and Carl Hucks (Helen); sisters, Ethel Sampson (Tom), Jenny Sellers and Patsy Padgett; one grandchild, Katelyn Skipper, along with many other family and friends who will miss her.

Funeral Service will be held 2pm Monday, January 13, 2025 at Watson Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Gregg Cannon and Carol Wilkes officiating.
