James W. Mathews, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born January 26, 1944 in Charleston, SC, a son of the late John Richmond Mathews and Katherine Ellen Wierse Mathews.

James was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He had a great passion for helping others is why he became a critical care nurse, providing the passionate care he gave others. He loved traveling, cruising, gardening and was an avid reader.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Mr. Mathews is survived by his loving wife of fifty- nine years, Nancy Mitchell Mathews; daughters, Maria Lee Johnson (James) and Stephanie Jean Hribar (Douglas); sisters, Mary Louise Able, Marcia Heinz (Dennis), Martha Thornhill (Michael), Melissa Bedsole and Margaret Ann Gentry (Sam); four grandchildren, Jamie Lee Schnurer (Matthew), Matthew Kibble (Alyssa), Zachary Hribar (Aleesha) and Lauren Hribar; two great grandchildren, Aurora Schnurer and Easton Hribar and many other family and friends who will miss him.

A Memorial Service will be held 11am, Monday, June 3, 2024 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church, 710 Main Street, Conway, SC 29526.
