Dorothy Elizabeth
Kauffman
Feb 6, 1931 — Mar 14, 2026
Dorothy Elizabeth (Jacobs) Kauffman was called home from her daughters' residence in Conway, SC to her Heavenly Father, on March 14, 2026 at the age of 95. She was born to Ross and Jennie (Davis) Jacobs on February 6, 1931 in Concordia Kansas. She graduated in 1949 from Oregon City High School in Oregon City, Oregon.
Dorothy married her first husband, James "Tom" Howard, in 1952. They lived in many states: Oregon, California, Illinois, Texas, and Pennsylvania. They were able to visit all 48 contiguous United States.
Prior to becoming a loving mother and housewife, she was employed in both Oregon City and San Jose Ca. As her daughters grew up, she began to establish a long career in retail sales. She returned to Oregon where she enjoyed a peaceful life and later returned to PA after the birth of her granddaughter, Amie. She retired to Conway SC where she always loved the beauty of blooming flowers, especially wisteria.
She was an avid reader. She was skilled in both sewing and needlework. She loved country music. Her favorite artist was Waylon Jennings. She was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of visiting Wales and Ireland.
Known for her generous spirit and a lifetime of helping others, she was a faithful blood donor and contributor to numerous children's charities. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church where she served as both Deacon and Elder.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jill Bechtel of Hamburg, PA and Dolores Franks of Conway, SC; and her granddaughter, Amie Fehntrich of Seattle WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Kauffman; sister, Peggy Linder; brother, Ralph Jacobs; and her first husband, and father of her children, James "Tom" Howard.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her excellent care team, Helen, of Your Health Care, along with Cassie and Amanda, of Embrace Hospice, who provided so much love and compassionate care to our mother.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2pm, Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Watson Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Randy Riddle officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at Watson Funeral Services Fellowship Hall.
