Charles Eugene Turner, 87, passed away Thursday, January 8th, 2026 at GSRMC. Born March 21, 1938 in Marion County, he was the son of the late Alex Turner and Lydia Turner Taylor. He was predeceased by his siblings, Laverne Turner, Ernest Turner and Lydia Mae Buffkin as well as his step-father, Morgan Taylor.

Sgt. Turner served in the military for 24 years which consisted of stents in the Air Force, Reserves, and Army and included two tours in Vietnam. Upon retirement from the military, he worked with AVX Corp while completing his degree in Criminal Justice. Charles later went on to serve his community as a captain for the Coastal Carolina University police department for 16 years. His military career gave him the opportunity to do what he loved, which was traveling all over the world. He also loved watching old westerns, MASH, telling stories of his days in the service and joking with his children and grandchildren.

Sgt. Turner is survived by his wife of 58 years, Polly Bowers Turner;children, Tracy Turner, Lois 'Annette' Turner, and Debra Bryant (Scotty); grandchildren, Cara, Marquise, Kacey, DJ, Travaris, Ariana, Sofi, Esteban, and Charlie; eleven great grandchildren; brother's in-law: Jessie Buffkin, Mike Bowers, Burney Bowers; sister in-law, Lorraine Elvington; Special Cousins, Pauline, Ernestine, JK, Elouise, and Hazel, and many other family and friends who will miss him.

A Memorial Service will be held 2pm on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026 at  Watson Funeral Services Chapel.

Inurnment will be held at the Florence National Cemetery at a later date.
