Blake H
Olmstead
May 14, 1926 — Jan 28, 2024
Blake H. Olmstead, 97, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Anderson Oaks. He was born May 14, 1926 in Middletown, NY, a son of the late Esley and Rhoda McBride Olmstead.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Agnes Olmstead; daughters, Patricia Smith and Mary Elizabeth Jahn; siblings, Rutherford Olmstead, Edwin Olmstead and Jean Burns.
Mr. Olmstead is survived by his children, Carl Olmstead and Peggy Olmstead (Robert Lounsbury); grandchildren, Lori Lopez (Jimmy) and Darren Jahn; great grandchildren, Justin, Madison and Tristen.
Blake H. Olmstead was a hardworking man and good provider for his family. He certainly lived a good long life and lived it his way, no denying that!
Blake was from Middletown, NY went to school there, met and married his high school sweetheart, Mary.
Blake was a WW2 Veteran in the Army Air Corp. He earned his wings; he came home with many memories and friends from being stationed in Austria.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
Blake and Mary moved south after the family grew up. Last stop Conway. They loved their home, the area and the people. They enjoyed browsing the stores and sharing lunches on Main Street. They took drives along the coast, went picnicking and camping at the beach.
Being retired did not stop Blake from taking on "what not" jobs to keep him busy. Always was tinkering around the house. He needed to know how everything worked. Wouldn't be happy until he figured it out, then made it work his way!
Old age set in, he lost his wife just shy of 73 years. He was blessed with having such good neighbors for help and support.
Hope and Freedom was there to keep Blake in his home for as long as possible. Angela paired amazing caregivers to my father's needs, personality and temperament. He was challenging at best!
Lori worked with Blake for approximately four years. She was a blessing. She went over and above to take care of Mr. Blake. Always there for him and his daughter.
Shirley was so patient, kind and caring. She considered him her Mr. Blake. She took his daughter under her wing too.
Deborah and Wanda-Gale were always ready to step in and help.
Griswold Home Care sent one of their angels…Pat. She was special to him. An outstanding person and an amazing caregiver.
These women are the epitome of the meaning of caregiver. Without them Blake would have never been able to stay at home safely for as long as he did.
We were very fortunate to have these people in our lives.
Mom and Dad or you may know them as Mary and Blake would like to say…
Thank you for everything!
We had a good life!
Bye-Bye for now.
