Billy Joe Jones, 75, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Tidelands Waccamaw Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born May 11, 1949 in Conway, he was the son of the late Freddie and Pauline McDowell Jones.
He was also predeceased by his stepsister, Jenene Bryant.
Billy graduated high school in 1967 and enlisted in the US Air Force in August, 1968, retiring in August of 1976. Through a GI Bill from USC, he earned his Associated Degree. He met Mary Puckett in 1971 and were married on July 8, 1972. They resided on the Philippians Islands from 1972-1974. He ended his service at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC where his oldest son was born on February 23, 1976. Two years later Jason was born on December 18, 1978. Returning to Conway, they built their house on Hwy 905 in 1976. Billy was an active member of Kingston Baptist Church for thirty years, serving as a Deacon and Vacation Bible School Director. He was employed for thirty-three years at AVX as a computer operator. He was a member of the Conway Bass Masters for twenty-five years and a member of Carolina Bays Hunting Club. Billy enjoyed fishing in tournaments, along with bowling on a bowling team.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Mary E. Jones; children, Chris A. Jones (Misty) and Jason F. Jones (Kate); grandchildren, Noah Jones, Bailey Jones, Owen Spivey, Sam Spivey and Jesse Spivey.
Funeral Services will be held 12 noon, Monday, March 31, 2025 at Watson Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Mike Gerald and Kevin Edge officiating.
Burial will follow at Graham Cemetery on Old Reaves Ferry Road.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at Chris's residence, 4118 Long Ave. Ext., Conway, 29526 at all other times.
